Community Service at SZPA
“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve”
- Martin Luther King, Jr., 1968
What is it?
One of the graduation requirements of students of SZPA is the completion of 40 hours of community service. What is it, and why do it, you might ask…
Community Service is any activity that you do voluntarily to meet the need of a person or community.
Why do it?
The great thing about serving others is that both parties benefit. The benefits of providing your services in the form of time are too many to type! A few of them include: helping others in need; it feels good; students meet new people, make new friends and learn new skills; improved confidence; and improved academic performance at school. With all these benefits, why not serve!?
Who can do it?
Anyone, of any age, can choose to help others. At SZPA, students may complete their hours beginning in grade 7. Service usually happens outside school hours (before or after school, during break or lunch, on weekends and/or holidays)
Where can students serve?
There are many service opportunities both within the school and in the broader community. Students are encouraged to check the school’s community service board for some suggestions and service opportunities that are currently available. Parents check out this link for the service opportunities available in school and in the community.
